Benzoin Tallow

This is a very rustic bar that smells sweetly of vanilla. In the natural skincare world vanilla is a tricky scent to get. There is no such thing as vanilla essential oil, and vanilla extract will not come through the lye process. That’s where benzoin resin comes in. 

Benzoin resin is collected by making small cuts in the bark of styrax trees, allowing the thick, fragrant resin to slowly ooze out and harden into golden-brown tears. Once dried, the resin is harvested by hand and used in skincare, perfumery, and traditional wellness practices.

Not only does benzoin smell lovely, it’s soothing, comforting, and protective for dry and irritated skin. The scent is mild but sweet and delicious. This soap is colored only naturally with the resin itself. 

Ingredients: Grass-fed tallow, benzoin resin, lye, water.
