Each spring I slowly anticipate the first nettle sightings. They’re often one of the first greens to reappear in the forest after winter. Any new foliage is a welcomed sight and often gives me butterflies. After a grey, rainy winter here in Portland, nettles mean light, and hope and growth. I foraged these nettles along the Sandy River. I filled my pillowcase, saw a startling snake, and got natures sting a couple times to keep my adrenaline active! I dried the nettles in my kitchen and blended them into a fine powder. Once you introduce heat to nettles the sting is gone ;)
Dandelions are often one of the first flowers to emerge in our yard, alongside our daphnes and magnolias. My son and I spent the afternoon picking all the dandelions in our front yard, ensuring the backyard was for the bees. 🐝
Nettles are rich with benefits. Calming for sensitive skin, full of minerals, naturally cleansing, and soothing.
Although this bar is loaded with stinging nettles, I promise there is no sting.
